Spotlight on Wilsonville |
|
Wilsonville, considered the gateway to Oregon’s
wine country, is located half-way between Portland, Oregon’s
largest city, and Salem, the state’s capital. The Willamette
River flows through the town creating a peaceful setting which enhances
the natural beauty found within the acres of park and gardens. Once
a quiet farming community, Wilsonville is Oregon’s fifth fastest
growing city and has become the epicenter of the rapidly growing south
Portland metro-area with Sherwood to the west and Canby to the east.
Wilsonville’s incredible growth can
be attributed to the major high-tech companies present, including Mentor
Graphics, Nike, and Xerox. However, it is not only the growth in businesses
that draws people to Wilsonville, but also the fantastic school system
as well as the recreational opportunities both within the city and
nearby. The award winning faculty of the West Linn/Wilsonville school
district ensures the continuing success of the students, evidenced
by its students receiving top test scores. Town Center Park, situated
in the middle of Wilsonville, is a place where families can enjoy a
large interactive waterfall and wading pool, a basketball court, a
pavilion, play structures, and picnic tables. Charbonneau Golf and
Country Club, located on the south side of Wilsonville, is a beautifully
manicured twenty seven hole public golf course which will have every
golf lover itching to play. If hiking and biking is more your style,
just south of Wilsonville, Champoeg State Park offers ten miles of
hiking and biking trails through old growth hardwood forests and along
the banks of the Willamette River.
Designated a “Tree City”
by the National Arbor Day Foundation, Wilsonville has been recognized
for its commitment in planting and maintaining trees throughout its
city. Not only has this increased the natural, beautiful appearance
of the many parks in the city, but it has also beautified the downtown
and more urban neighborhoods.
Wilsonville has something to offer to everyone – from
the nature enthusiast to the wine lover to the golfer. The opportunities
are endless in this fast growing community!
